My 2003 Epitech Lab-console student project on Sega Dreamcast, dug out of an old archive on a damaged burned CD-Rom that I was able to read by some miracle, and rebuilt through Godot with Claude to play in your browser.

Description

BomberDigger is an arena bomber where you dig your own way through the map.

You play Elwood the penguin against three computer opponents. Walk into blocks to dig through them, drop dynamite to open a path, and save your bigger bombs for the right moment. Be the last one standing, or in Joyaux mode, be the first to reach the crystal. When the timer runs out, sudden death begins and everyone starts firing mortars.

Controls

  • Arrow keys: move
  • Enter: drop a dynamite
  • Right Shift: drop your best bomb
  • Tab: change view, R: restart, Esc: back to menu
  • A gamepad also works

A keyboard or gamepad is required, so it is not playable on a phone.

The story

This game was originally made in 2003 as an Epitech Lab-Console project for the Sega Dreamcast, written in C++ on the Iris 3D engine. In 2026 it was rebuilt with Claude and Godot from the original models, source code, maps and sounds. The characters, arenas, menus and sound effects are the ones from 2003.

Credits from the original project:

  • Project lead and programmer: Gregory Chocoloff
  • Contributors: Ousama Ben Younes and Albin Jacquet
  • 3D designers: names lost to time, get in touch
  • Special thanks to Olivier Chatry, head of the Lab-Console, for his teachings, mentorship and patience (and the Iris engine)

Original code stats:

  • 5800 C++ lines of code
  •  33 object classes
  • 132 texture files and 40 models
